Cindy’s memoir, 60s, invites readers into a world shaped by hurricanes, assassinations, war, shifting culture, and personal battles that defined an entire generation. From her childhood in Ft. Lauderdale to her unexpected journey as a young Army wife in Germany, Cindy captures the heart, humor, fear, and resilience that carried her through the most transformative decade of her life.
Cindy was raised in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, where her childhood was filled with sunshine, beaches, and the simplicity of small-town 1960s life. As the world changed around her, she grew from a shy teenager into a young woman facing challenges far bigger than her years.
Her journey took her from Florida to Georgia, and eventually across the Atlantic to Germany as the wife of a U.S. soldier. Through every chapter of her life — storms, fear, heartbreak, love, motherhood, and history unfolding in real time — Cindy learned the quiet strength of resilience.
Today, she writes to preserve the memories of a decade that shaped her — and millions of others — through stories that are honest, heartfelt, and unmistakably human.

Her journey continues as a nineteen-year-old Army wife traveling alone to Germany, where she faces harsh winters, cultural adjustments, shared living spaces, and the pressures of young motherhood during the Vietnam era.
She shares vivid memories of her childhood in Ft. Lauderdale, from beaches and hurricanes to family challenges, and describes the shock of entering college and discovering truths that changed her view of the world.
Through moments of love, fear, humor, loss, and resilience, Cindy gives a personal behind-the-headlines look at the 1960s, creating a coming-of-age story that reflects the struggles and strength of an entire generation.
“The morning after Hurricane Donna, the world looked broken, but I felt oddly untouched — as if storms could tear down buildings, but not my childhood. I didn’t know then how quickly life could change.”
“Crossing the Atlantic alone at nineteen, I felt like this was the beginning of a non-stop adventure. But life doesn’t wait for bravery — sometimes it forces you forward.”
This was fasinating to read since I too was about that age when this happened. It was a very scary time and so nice to hear from anothers perspective. Definately 5 star quality!
Excellent quick read full of vivid details that make you feel like you lived through this voyage and subsequent harrowing experience. I plan to buy more books and give them as stocking stuffers since it's such a quick and interesting read. I hope that the author decides to write more books so we can also live through the 50s, 70s, 80s, and 90s through her eyes!
I went to high school with the author and thus lived through the same profound political events. This book presented a flashback to that time, while describing her own parallel journey of falling in love and moving to Germany while her husband served in the Armed Forces. The experience provided her with unique challenges, which she describes with honesty and a sense of innocence. It left me wanting for more!
Experience a decade like never before — through the eyes of a young woman who lived every moment with courage and heart.
